After reading the latest issue of Burlesque Magazine, we spotted these gorgeous images of burlesque performer Immodesty Blaize (promoting her new film). Of course we knew we had to share!
We first discovered Ms. Blaize when she modeled a few pieces from the Madame V catalog in 2007, and once you see someone as spectacular as she you don't forget!
Often referred to as the "the undisputed queen of British burlesque" you can find her performing internationally in luxurious and decadent costumes filled with crystals, feathers and dazzling jewels. And look at those corsets...what can we say but 'wow'! We can only imagine how much it costs to have a custom Swarovski crystal-covered corset made for you...but we're sure it's worth it. Something to add to our wish list!

We get quite a few emails/phone calls inquiring about when we will receive a new collection from Madame V...and the answer is, we won't (for now). Though they have a lovely, updated website, the brand has not created any new collections in about a year. Luckily you can still order some of the classic pieces that were once carried at Faire Frou Frou on the Madame V website, and we've posted some of those favorites here!
As for if and when they will design something new...that remains to be seen. We would love to see this brand make a comeback! Typically when a popular brand pretty much disappears for no apparent reason, it's due to lack of proper management from investment companies. Sometimes quality control is not what it should be, and production ends up compromised. We're not sure if this is what happened to Madame V, but we've seen similar things happen to other lingerie brands. In any event, we eagerly await their big comeback!

Madame V robe

We are finally catching up on a stack of fashion magazines that has been growing by the day. Upon flipping through Bazaar and Vogue, we have been intrigued by the Donna Karan ad campaign, namely because of a beautiful pale pink ostrich feather coat.

Yes, we have a thing for ostrich feathers...it's such a fun trim (along with sequins!). In any event, the image reminded us of our favorite Madame V ostrich feather robe that has since sold out. In fact, our last robe in stock went to a very dear reader of ours (yes, Katie we're talking about you!). One significant difference between our Madame V robe and the Donna Karan coat is that the robe cost about $800 and the coat costs $6,200! Both pieces remind us of that gorgeous robe from the film "Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day" - we still want that robe! Since we sold out of the Madame V robes, we haven't been able to find an amazing ostrich trim robe since.
In searching the Donna Karan website, we see that intimate apparel is a key component to her work. She believes that a great foundation for building a Spring wardrobe, for example, is a great chemise upon which you can layer. Of course the Donna Karan brand includes its own lingerie label, which most of us have probably bought at one point or another.

Lingerie in the Movies!

We are excited to see the new film "Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day", and if you've seen the trailer, you know what we mean! This movie appears filled with eye-candy from its deco glamorous interiors to its 1930's costume design. The film is set in London in 1939 and is filled with feathers, silks and a lingerie fashion show...and hopefully the plot and the acting are good too (of course it will be since it stars Amy Adams and Frances McDormand)!
Here are a few pictures we found on the web to give you an idea of what we're talking about. One of the robes worn by Amy Adams reminds us of the Madame V Glamour robe that's sold at Faire Frou Frou. We're not sure whether the lingerie in the film is vintage, created by the costume department, or whether it's a lingerie designer that we may know of. We have a feeling it's either vintage or costume design... And speaking of design, we love the interiors!

The Madame V "Octavia" collection

Yet another fun, flirty Madame V collection has arrived! This group is called Octavia and comes in this beautiful 'powder blue' (as they call it), which really looks more like periwinkle. This entire group is so cute, particularly because of the little velvet rosette bouquet pin on most of the pieces. To top off the cuteness, there's the pink ostrich hand fan that came with the group that we just love! In fact, the hand fan makes a great accessory for most of the brands we carry in the store.
We have other new items from Madame V (and Courtworth) that will be posted to the online store this week...and certainly we will post about them when they are available for purchase!
Of course, the Octavia collection is currently available online, so treat yourself to something sweet!

The Madame V Kimono

This decadent robe has a wide silk fuchsia obie for around the waist, and a brilliant fuchsia silk lining the entire interior. The trim along the neck and down to the ankles is a wide black satin. The robe itself is black silk with an Asian-inspired floral pattern (with red, white, purple, orange and green). The sleeves are dramatic, sweeping kimono style that drape down almost to your fingertips! A lovely touch is added with the black fringe tassels on the robe's waist tie. This robe's pattern also matches that of the Madame V 'Oriental Whip'...if you're interested in adding an accessory! Sexy Accessories!!!

London-based brand Madame V never ceases to impress us with their cheeky accessories!
It's rare for Faire Frou Frou to venture into fantasy accessories, but when it's done as cute and fun as Madame V does it, we couldn't resist!
For instance, the "Oriental Whip" is a hot seller in our boutique (and we won't name any names!)...we even sell a leather riding crop which has triggered quite a few interesting discussions in the store. Over Valentine's Day, our best selling gift was the Fantasy Lingerie Kit (shown with the pink feather outfit above)...we will continue to sell that item throughout the year along with a Mini Fantasy Box during the 2007 Holiday season.
We are pleased to note that all of the items shown here, and more, are available both in our Studio City boutique and online! So go ahead and have some fun!

If it's Good Enough for Posh Spice...

The new must-have line arriving at Faire Frou Frou, and launching in the U.S., is Madame V. This brand is all about frou-frou, frilly, sexy lingerie that's quite fun and unique. For example, Madame V is launching its "Fantasy Gift Case" which is beautiful black box tied in ribbon that contains a themed dress-up outfit, accessories and instructions! Attached are images of the 3 themes you can purchase; naughty office worker, french maid and burlesque siren. The boxes are packaged beautifully in one of Madame V's black logo cases. We will be carrying these cases in Faire Frou Frou for the holiday season and know it will be a huge success...and the price is just right!
The ladies pictured in this post are the faces behind Madame V. The lady in the red dress is the London-based designer, who I met and initially thought was the lingerie model for the event they were hosting! The ladies hosted a suite at the lovely Chateau Marmont in LA and served glasses of pink champagne and huge pink cupcakes from Sweet Lady Jane bakery. Their room was decorated like a 1940s boudoir and had rolling racks filled with the Spring 2007 collection. I learned of their growing celebrity clientele, which includes Victoria Beckham (aka Posh Spice)...and Posh is shown wearing one of their gorgeous kimono robes in her book "That Extra Half an Inch". We will be stocking that kimono in our store for the Holiday season as well.
Madame V was recently honored as one of the top names in style in the U.K. along with Agent Provocateur.
The bulk of goods for Faire Frou Frou will be delivered to the store in February 2007. It includes designs that are both girly, youthful & fun as well as sophisticated & glamourous. We can't wait for you to see it too! Keep checking back with us!
