Pin-Up Girls by Enoch Bolles

Being a fan of pin-up art (for those adorable vintage outfits and the fresh girl next-door portraits) , we're pretty surprised that we didn't know of the artist Enoch Bolles. Actually, we've seen his work, and even posted it on this site, but just assumed it was early Vargas artwork
Bolles (1883-1976) was an Art Deco pin-up artist who illustrated for countless advertisements and magazine covers.
Most of his work includes a model wearing either lingerie or swimwear, so it was hard to narrow down which pictures to include in this post! He seems to feature lingerie much more often than the revered pin-up artist Gil Elvgren.
(Thanks to reader Jagress for the tip!).

More Ellen Von Unwerth Goodness

We're not sure whose lingerie this is...it kind of looks like Victoria's Secret upon close inspection. The robe looks adorable, though we have no idea who designed it! The gathered sleeves really make the robe, and the vintage rose print is incredibly fresh.
The slip above looks very much like Araks...we have a navy blue bralette that has the same cotton/silk combination, so that's our best guess!

We took an unexpected mini vacation from blogging these past few days, but we're back! We've been getting ready to launch our Fall collections, and have been preparing for some renovations at our boutique.
We found some new Ellen Von Unwerth photos of Beyonce, and of course there's a coquettish display of cute lingerie. Naturally we had to share!

Daily Candy post (again!)

This post features the current Summer collection, which will be leaving our store soon due to the arrival of the Fall group. We will let you know when the Fall pieces arrive, but in the meantime, take advantage of the beautiful bright-colored Summer group while we still have it!! Those little Sofia Bloomer Shorts are a must-have!

Stella McCartney, by Popular Demand

Due to the success of our Summer collection of "Daisy Dreaming" by Stella McCartney, we have re-stocked our store with the collection, but this time in black! It seems that everyone who bought it in ivory, also wanted it in black...so now you have it!
We brought back the Daisy Dreaming Soft-Cup Bra and matching Boyshort.
The Daisy Dreaming pieces are made from a combination of cotton & silk, and feature a vintage touch; silk trim with detail stitching.
For those of you not yet familiar with this lingerie brand, Stella McCartney Intimates is licensed by the same company that makes Elle Macpherson Intimates, so their sizing is similar. What this means is that the bras run a bit small in the band.

Wonderbra 'Dita' Campaign

When Katie from Knickers blog told us about the sneak peak of the new 'Dita von Teese X Wonderbra' ad campaign, we just couldn't resist passing along the news to you!
The new collection, available September 23rd, includes 3 styles: Multi-Teese, Spot-Teese and Satin-Teese (okay, we get it!).
Of course we will not be representing this line at Faire Frou Frou (since you can pretty much buy Wonderbra at any major department store), but we are loving the photography for these ads, and the designs are adorable. Plus, it is our understanding that this collection is only launching in European stores and online for US shoppers at asos.com.
We're guessing the price range for these pieces will be very favorable, and it's always a gamble to see whether some of these lines that photograph well look as good in person. Nonetheless, it's great that there's a pretty lingerie label for every budget!

Genlux, Dita von Teese, & Faire Frou Frou

Courtworth 'Vague' Bra at Faire Frou Frou, corset from Agent Provocateur. We plan on getting waist-cinchers like this at our boutique from Cadolle Paris.
above: a guipiere from Eres (from one of our favorite Eres groups in a long time...very retro-inspired).
below: full-size shot of the same Eres robe and guipiere.
above: Agent Provocateur bra, waspie & briefs.

Last week we went to the launch party for the Fall issue of Genlux Magazine, featuring Dita von Teese as its cover girl! We were especially excited to attend this event, because we worked with the stylist Basia Richard for the "Modern Geisha" shoot, and one of our Faire Frou Frou bras made it into the magazine. Which bra, you ask? It just happens to be one of our personal favorites; the Courtworth 'Vague' Bra. In the photo credit they said 'price upon request', which makes it sound like it's over $1000. In any event, the 1 bra we have left in stock is currently on sale for $187 (in size 32D). It looks just lovely paired with the black waist-cincher.
Of course we have included the rest of the images from this shoot. We recommend that you pick up this issue...the Dita photo spread is just wonderful (but there's no lingerie!).

Chantal Thomass - Always Perfect!

Thanks to Kelly over at The Lingerie Post, we found out about the new collections being shown on the Chantal Thomass website. This must-have French label consistently has beautiful photography for each collection, and their models always have the signature Chantal Thomass cropped coif!
In this Fall group, you are certain to see ruffles, polka dots and little silk bows!
If you're ever in Paris, you should definitely stop by their flagship boutique - you can't miss it with its beautiful exterior facade!

Lingerie Exhibit in St. Gallen (Switzerland)

Too bad we aren't traveling to Switzerland anytime soon, otherwise we would love to visit the "Secrets" lingerie exhibit at the St. Gallen Textile Museum. The city of St. Gallen is famous for being home to some of the most luxurious textiles manufacturers in the world!
The show (running now thru December 30, 2008) presents a broad selection of lingerie through the ages, as well as the evolution of textiles & embroideries used in creating lingerie.
Based on the images we've seen, this exhibit appears to be the ultimate historical lesson in lingerie. There are plenty of vintage photographs as well as vintage corsets, panties, bras, etc. There's even a section devoted to displaying how various ready-to-wear designers have been inspired by the look of lingerie.
For more details about the show, visit the exhibit's website! Let us know if you've gone, or will attend!
(Thank you to the Best of Intima for originally sharing this story with us!).

Shopping for D+ Cups Just Got Easier!

The Fleur T "Fleurtatious Bra", which comes in sizes 30GG to 36G.

While we await the launch of our revamped website (getting closer...we've been waiting forever!), we decided to make our existing online store a bit easier to shop from. For our customer base that wears a D-cup or larger (cup size, that is), we now have a category on our website for every item that comes in these particular sizes.
So, while we wait for our new site in which there will be a search by size function, you can now search the D-cup category to narrow down your search.
Also keep in mind that we are completely stepping up our size ranges in general, and will offer significantly more options this Fall from 32A to 40F (and a lot of options in between). We want everyone to share in the Faire Frou Frou experience!!
We are so excited about our growth in this direction, and can't wait to share these new products with you. Of course we will be posting about these new items as they become available.
Just a quick side note to all of our A-cup customers (we know there are a lot of you), we are working on adding a special category for you too!

Myla in the Press (Their Own!)

Lydia Hearst, as seen in the Fall 2008 Myla ad campaigns
Recently we've been featuring some of our favorite lingerie designers, as seen in the press. When doing a bit of research for British lingerie label Myla, we realized that their promo pictures were better than anything we had seen in the magazines. In fact, most of the press that Myla received used photos from their promo catalogue. That is most likely due to the fact that 'celebutante' heiress Lydia Hearst was used for their most recent catalogue campaign.
Basically, the whole point of us sharing our favorite images in the press is to show lingerie in its most high-fashion, stylish setting. As you can see, Myla does that quite well!

Boudoir Looks on the Runway

above: John Galliano
above: Gilesabove: Anna Molinari

above: La Perla
above: Bottega Veneta all images as reported by Marcio Madeira

We found a piece from vogue.com which reported the trend of lingerie on the runway this season (Summer '08). Just the perfect piece to report on our blog!
Basically, the site featured several different high-profile designers who incorporated the boudoir look into their designs. From fancy corsets (hello John Galliano!) to slouchy silk PJs (Stella McCartney), the bedroom look is interpreted in very different ways.
We love them all!
