It's been far too long since we've featured Murmur on our blog, and now that the Spring 2013 Murmur collection is being released, we had to share!   Murmur is a brand that designs outerwear that is lingerie-inspired...but one look at these images tells you that.  The images above are from the latest collection called hellcat, which the designer wants to remind us means:

1. a. A woman regarded as bad-tempered and evil.
b. A woman who practices sorcery; a witch.
2. A person who torments others.  

That being said, we are enjoying the corset details and harness layering.   Do you have a favorite?

Making It Work: Lingerie As Outerwear - Gold Hawk Edition

We are pleased to present you with our next installment of Making It Work: Wearing Lingerie as Outerwear.  This week we feature yet another favorite designer, Gold Hawk, which allows for yet another super simple look to transition from lingerie to daywear.  For this post, we included a few gorgeous images of the models wearing Gold Hawk.  When something is presented in such a sexy, bedroom fashion, sometimes it's hard to look beyond how it's marketed to see another use for it.  Perhaps the number one reason we love wearing our Gold Hawk chemises & slips as tops is because it's such a perfect length!  It's super cute & short for the bedroom, but just long enough to cover the hips/rear when you're out & about...a winning combination for us!
The item featured on Faire Frou Frou's Alison is the Sheer Edge Slip in Black.  We brought this item to Faire Frou Frou for Fall 2012 in a few colors, and even brought in a few styles with lace trim.  This could easily be the first of many Gold Hawk posts!  As it is, yesterday on Instagram we made a little demonstration with this satin Gold Hawk chemise (on the hanger and on Alison):

Making It Work: Lingerie as Outerwear - Kriss Soonik Edition

Far too often customers see something they love in our boutique and ask us if the item is lingerie or outerwear, and often times our response is BOTH! 
Our first item for our new series of Making It Work: Wearing Lingerie as Outerwear, is the Kristel Suspender Top by Kriss Soonik.  We demonstrate the lingerie use for this darling top as the first image above, and show how quite simply it can be layered with a jacket and pants to create outfit you can spend the entire day in.  Another great idea is to pair it with a pencil skirt, and that way you put those cute garter straps to good use.  Now this may seem like an extremely easy no-brainer, but we wanted to start our series off with the simplest idea.  As it is, someone may see something just like this being sold at Faire Frou Frou and ask if they can wear it outside the house!  Just because something is sold in a lingerie setting, doesn't mean you can't get the double benefit of using the item both inside and outside the bedroom.
As for the Kristel Suspender Top, it is THE original garter strap top made from viscose jersey that is treated with an anti-pilling treatment (talk about attention to detail!).  It has a dramatic cut-out at the back that is accented with a sweet satin bow.  Now if you're really good, you will wear this top with the matching panties underneath, and that way have an instant day-to-night look!

Murmur - Lingerie Inspired Outerwear

It seems as though more and more designers are making lingerie-as-outerwear easier for the average gal to accomplish.  However, some designers, such as Murmur are doing things the other way around; creating outerwear that is lingerie-inspired.  Granted, most of what we are featuring in this post is more lingerie-specific, but you can see the layering potential.  Designer Andreea Badala developed her label as a response to her belief that lingerie should not simply be limited to "under" wear...it should be "outer" wear. 
It appears that most of these pieces are made-to-order, and the designer can be reached for orders here.

Elkin Lingerie - Begging To Be Layered

We've been thinking a lot lately about new ways of incorporating lingerie into our outerwear, and felt inspired after taking another look at the Fall 2011 collection from Elkin.  The philosophy behind this new, Los Angeles-based brand is to layer pieces or to wear alone which makes the collection great for the bedroom or for when you're out & about.  We love the dual purpose designs!  There are so many pretty details just begging to be shared.  We especially love the cut-out bra shown in the first picture...it's fashion-forward and looks so comfortable too!

Lingerie? Outerwear? Does it Matter?

Isn't this the prettiest crossover of lingerie as outerwear?  The line that divides the two is almost nonexistent here as one blends seamlessly into the other.  With the right essentials (hello beautiful leopard purse in that last pic) and a little creativity the most stunning looks can be created.  Granted, we're not necessarily going out of our house in most of these outfits, but they do provide a great foundation that you can build upon (for instance a pair of pants might be nice).  We love the use of bodysuits, leggings and high-waist panties; all of which are key trends in the lingerie industry this past year!
