 When erotica is presented in a high-fashion setting it tends to make the whole concept much more mainstream.  Take one part couture clothing, mix it with a blindfold and add a pair of stockings an you've got erotica!  Not so bad.  This is certainly a trend we're seeing within our own business, with the prominence of brands such as Lascivious, Bordelle and Maison Close, and in particular with accessories such as blindfolds, cuffs & riding crops.

With Memorial Day just around the corner, Summer unofficially begins next week (for our non-US readers who aren't familiar with the holiday, just trust us on this one). We've booked our Summer weather get-away, and that means that we're now closely checking out what's new and fabulous in swimwear.  We have a tendency to gravitate towards pieces with a subtle retro vibe, kind of like the images in this post.  Not too campy, but not too trampy (for instance a thong bikini).  Perhaps you will see a little more swimwear on our blog as we prepare for our tropical vacation!

Lingerie? Outerwear? Does it Matter?

Isn't this the prettiest crossover of lingerie as outerwear?  The line that divides the two is almost nonexistent here as one blends seamlessly into the other.  With the right essentials (hello beautiful leopard purse in that last pic) and a little creativity the most stunning looks can be created.  Granted, we're not necessarily going out of our house in most of these outfits, but they do provide a great foundation that you can build upon (for instance a pair of pants might be nice).  We love the use of bodysuits, leggings and high-waist panties; all of which are key trends in the lingerie industry this past year!

Zinke - Souvenir Collection (Fall 2011)

We're breaking our rule of speaking of a lingerie collection before it hits the stores, but since the designer is doing it, we figured we better follow suit!  Zinke, a best-selling brand here at Faire Frou Frou, has just launched their new & improved website, and the best part is that they have finally revealed (to the public) their Fall 2011 collection!  The Souvenir collection arrives at our shop in August 2011, and we thought this little sneak peek would whet your appetite and have you prepared to place your orders.  As it is, we sold most of our current Spring Zinke pieces rather quickly, so if you're a fan of the brand it's best you pounce on what you want once we have it!
We will follow-up with more details about this group once it gets closer to arriving, but in the meantime enjoy!

Bizarre Magazine by John Willie

We're taking a bit of creative license here in that although we're a luxury lingerie blog, we are stretching our coverage base to include a bit of erotica.  And come on, we know that lingerie is next-door neighbors to the land of erotic adventures.  Nonetheless, in true Frou Frou style, we are keeping it clean and have selected some fun vintage illustrations from Bizarre Magazine.  Between 1946-1959 bondage artist John Willie created photographs and illustrations for a publication that may have been quite scandalous back in his day, but nowadays comes across as cheeky (or at least with regards to the pictures we're showing).  He often depicted women in compromising sexual situations, and had a tendency to show women tied up or in various restraints...he especially had a thing for spanking.  You probably get a sense of that with the whips and ties you see in this very post.  What's interesting is that to this very day you see models re-creating the look and poses you see in many of his pictures (for instance Bernie Dexter, Mosh, photographs by Ellen von Unwerth, etc.). 
On a completely separate note, the more we look at these illustrations, the more we think shoe designer Christian Louboutin may have been influenced by John Willie.  What do you think?
