Cervin Stockings

images courtesy of Cervin

As we prepare for the arrival of Cervin stockings here at Faire Frou Frou we wanted to make mention of their handsome website and their blog which is dedicated entirely to beautiful hosiery. You might be surprised to see how often stockings show up in editorial, but it really appears to be the accessory of choice these days.
Cervin is a French company that creates hundreds of varieties of hosiery, and really has a great niche market with their back-seam thigh highs/stockings. Often times well-known lingerie labels (for instance Fifi Chachnil) will have Cervin create their private label hosiery collection. It's pretty easy to see why.
To learn more about Cervin check out their website, and for those stockings addicts out there (which we are discovering there's quite a few of you!), check out their blog too!

Lillian Bassman - Iconic Photography

all images courtesy of & copyright Lillian Bassman

Lillian Bassman is one of the pioneers of fashion photography, having worked for Harper's Bazaar in the '50s and '60s and having created some of the iconic images we posted above. Only recently has there been a renewed interest in her legacy, with worldwide exhibitions and a new book featuring her work (which we recently purchased and love).
Bassman is known for her black & white intimate images of women, which are somewhat sensual and dreamlike. She is also known for having promoted and mentored photographer Richard Avedon. Her passion for perfection is so great that when Bassman became disenchanted with the world of fashion in the 1960s, she burnt the negatives to many years of her work and the rest she kept in a trash bag in her home. Only in recent years did she re-visit those salvaged images and find them worthy of sharing (thank goodness!).
Of course the lingerie pictures are perfect for our site and we had a feeling you would fall in love with her work just as we did!
Lillian Bassman is 93-years old and lives in Manhattan.

Vintage Whimsy - Alexandra Grecco

It's interesting where playing around the internet can lead you...today it led us to Brooklyn-based brand Alexandra Grecco. Though not necessarily a lingerie brand, there are lovely lingerie-inspired touches and lounge pieces (and one bra & panty set!). The designer has an Etsy shop and sells her whimsical pieces to a handful of boutiques in the U.S. We were instantly smitten with the photographs of her collection, as they have a dreamy, old Hollywood cinema feel. If we're not mistaken, she has named several of her pieces using 1920s-30s Hollywood references (the Gish, Emerald City, Pickford) and was inspired by her Grandma's vintage wardrobe in designing her pieces. If anything her designs are a throwback to childhood memories with the rompers and bloomer shorts.
You can visit Alexandra Grecco's store here.

Dress Up Your Arms

ostrich feather gloves via Faire Frou Frou

We seem to have glove fever these days, as they really are a wonderful way to accessorize for a sexy look (just as stockings are a great way to amp up your appearance too). And we're not just talking any gloves, we're talking about the luxurious, long opera length that are the equivalent of dressing your arms in Black Tie. Whether it's done in lace, satin or sheer silk (or accented with feathers!), the effect is usually pretty dazzling.
Gloves seem to be making a comeback in the lingerie market, which seems to be a result of the growing fascination with burlesque (thank you Dita von Teese).
On a side note we found these images of lace cuffs by Maison Close which deserved a mention in our glove post. These cuffs ("poignets") are the racy cousin of the opera length glove!

For Mother's Day & Everyday & Every Woman

images via Keep Me

Keep Me is one of our very favorite loungewear lines (though it doesn't diminish our love for Skin, Only Hearts or BTS), and the more we were thinking of what would make an amazing Mother's Day gift, the more Keep Me stood out in our minds.
Keep Me is truly our at-home uniform - we wear it, we believe in it, we love selling it. We own almost every piece the Malibu-based company has made and can't get over how incredible it feels, and how the fit is so forgiving yet amazingly flattering. We can't tell you how many customers will come in our store, touch a Keep Me product and then ask what material it is because they've never felt something so soft.
Each product is made in Los Angeles and designed by the stylish duo Anne des Barres and Ali Kay. The collection consists of chic separates (tanks, tees, pants) that work as innerwear or outerwear.
We love that the designs work for women of all ages, the fit runs true-to-size and that its clean design and uncomplicated color assortment makes for timeless pieces that you will enjoy for years.
Stop by our store to experience the best loungewear brand in Los Angeles. You can also purchase items here and here.
